Adventure Time!

Last weekend we had a debate tournament at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. The tournament itself wasn't the best ... Sarah and I competed in front of our favorite judge first round and he ended up giving us bad speaker points because he thought we were ~less than~ sweethearts to our competitors. As a result we placed toward the bottom of the bracket throughout pre-elimination rounds. In the end we went 3-3 (you need at least a 4-2 record to advance to elimination rounds), losing 3 competitive rounds against really good teams. Even though we didn't win as much as I would have liked to, we performed really well. I am proud of us and looking forward to the next tournament.

Usually the UPS tournament is the same weekend as halloween so it has always been a tradition for teams to dress up together. Even though the tournament fell a week short of halloween this year our team decided to continue the tradition and dress up anyway! :) As a team, we were the cast of Adventure Time -- my nieces would be proud.

Sarah and I were Marceline and Princess Bubblegum.
Those characters fit each of our personalities comically well so everyone thought it was fantastic.
In all seriousness, this is probably what we were going to wear that day anyway.
I wore a pink Lilly Pulitzer Lori dress that I bought this past summer during the Endless Summer Sale  for wayy cheap. I also wore a pair of pink tights and a Princess Bubblegum crown from a local halloween store. The Lilly dress is one of my favorites. The back is cutout which I think is what makes it so amazing.
Every time I wear this dress I just want to spin in circles and frolic through a daisy field.

For those of you who don't watch the show, here's a picture of Marceline and P-Bubbs.
They're basically Sarah and myself.

The entire team did a fantastic job with their Adventure Time costumes!

In the end I will definitely look back on this tournament weekend and remember how adorable our costumes were. Not that Sarah and I weren't as successful as we should have been. And that's what matters, right? :)

ALSO! I am super excited about the American flag costume that I will be wearing today on actual halloween, sooo look forward to those pictures!

What are your halloween plans and what are you planning on dressing up as??

It's Fall, Y'all!

I'm over the moon happy to have fall here. The crisp cool air, stark colors, the best holidays, and most importantly pumpkins. Lots and lots of pumpkins.

Growing up I never went to a pumpkin patch because my daddy always had the best pumpkins growing at our house. Having pumpkins from home is always the first option, but unfortunately I don't have time to visit during the early fall so buying pumpkins from local farms is the next best thing. My sophomore year I went with a couple friends to Roloff Farms and wasn't overly impressed (to be honest) so I didn't go back last year. This year we decided to go to Sauvie Island. For some reason I had never been there before this visit. HUGE mistake. It is basically a gorgeous farm community like 10 minutes from downtown Portland. There's everything from U-Pick flowers or produce to corn mazes all over the island. We decided  to stop by the first pumpkin patch we came to which ended up being at Bella Organic

Since it was the first Friday in October the farm wasn't overcrowded which is always nice. We wandered around quite a bit. There was a lack of signs that made it difficult to understand where it was and wasn't appropriate for us to walk through, but we never got in trouble, soo .....

The weather was absolutely gorgeous. For those of you who still think Portland is always dark and rainy here is a bit of proof to show otherwise. This is suppose to be our rainy reason, but it has been warm and sunny lately. After a way too hot summer I think we deserve a not way too depressing fall.

I wore a pretty basic go-to fall outfit. This is the camo puffer vest from J.Crew Factory that I have been obsessing over in past posts.

(It was so nice that I actually had to take my vest off for a while.)

We indulged in the delicious treats even though I told myself I wouldn't. The caramel apples were so disappointing (totally not worth the $13!). They were soooo caramel-y. I'm not sure if it's just because I had too high of expectations for how good caramel apples are or if these were just bad caramel apples. Regardless, they definitely look better than they taste.

After visiting Bella we decided to drive around the island and soak in the scenery. I saw more full-sized pick-ups than I have the entire time I've lived in Portland. Maybe this is a hotspot to find boys? I can dream.

In the end I had a great time at Bella, even in spite of less than great and way too expensive caramel apples. They have a cute little shop with fresh food and gifts to buy. I found a couple retro advertisement signs for my apartment: one is Winchester and the other is Case equipment. The most exciting part was discovering Sauvie Island. It was a little taste of country right in Portland. I have a feeling I'll be returning quite often ...

Have you done any fun fall activities yet?

September Insta-Recap + Favorites

September came and went before I really realized it was here. Alot of fun things happened: I started my senior year of college, we had our first two debate tournaments, and I moved in with some awesome new roomies. I was going to write about this being my last year of school and how I've been a little sad over that, but I am trying to avoid those feelings so we'll focus on positive things :).

Will and I went to the State Fair. If you haven't already, check out my post about our visit!
I moved into the BAE (Best Apartment Ever!) with three other ladies that I'm looking forward to spending lots of time with this school year.
We went to Kansas City for debate! I had an amazing time even though my partner and I weren't as successful as I had hoped. It was a great way to start off the season. There was alot of good food and old friends. :) #PDXcarpet
Kansas City is full of the best food I have ever ate. Ever. (Sorry Mama!) This is from Oklahoma Joe's.
I finally got around to wearing this headband I bought from a Native American woman on the 4th of July. There's really no reason to include this picture other than I wanted to show off how cute it is.
This is the team at the Northwest Warm-Up tourney. I love this team. My partner and I were fairly successful (we made it to quarter finals, I was 5th speaker, and she was 2nd speaker) which was really encouraging!

September Favorites <3

I am head over heels for this vest. Desperately I tried to get my hands on the similar one J.Crew had last winter but no-go. Expect me to wear it in multiple outfit posts this fall. I'm going to wear it practically all the time (and I won't even feel bad about it.)

"Dirt" - Florida Georgia Line
Maybe it's part of how homesick I've been lately, but I can't get enough of this song. I currently have "you know you came from it, and some day you'll return from it" written on my white board. It's a beautiful song, and really touching for those who have strong hometown roots.

This stuff has kinda killed my diet, but I don't even care. It is so good. If you haven't tried it then go buy some right now, watch Gossip Girl, and have the perfect night alone. Definitely my new favorite B&J's flavor. (Sorry Willie Nelson's Peach Cobbler!)

My Lilly Pulitzer Agenda - $28
This is my third year using a Lilly agenda. It's always exciting to start a new one. Does anyone else use a Lilly agenda? Or if not do you have an agenda you prefer?

Alrighty. That's a basic recap of my September life. Hopefully now that I'm all settled in I will be able to find more time for blogging.

What was the highlight of your september?

Birch Box

I get Facebook ads encouraging me to sign up for Birch Box all the time. For about a year I've been ignoring them. After hearing good things from a family member I finally decided to check it out. It's only $10 for a monthly box and you can cancel at anytime, so why not?

Today I received September's box in the mail. It was a nice little surprise considering I forgot I had ordered it. The packaging is super cute and that always makes products more fun.

My favorite thing about the packaging is that the box itself is nice. I will definitely hang on to it and use it for storage (or maybe a future craft project?).

I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of products. My expectation was alot of body wash and lotion -- things I definitely don't need more of. I'm usually not to stoked about trying new skincare products, but the ones included look interesting.

My September box includes:
Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream (full size $20)
ChapStick Dual-Ended Hydration Lock Day & Night ($2.99)
Laura Mercier Full Blown Volume Supreme Mascara (full size $25)
Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel (full size $48)
Harvey Prince Ageless Liquid Loofah (full size$22)
Tocca Florence Eau de Parfum ( full size $68)

The perfume and liquid loofah are things I'll likely never use so those will be passed on to my mom or a friend. All in all I'm happy with my first Birch Box and looking forward to the November one!

If you haven't ordered your Birch Box, do so ASAP!
