Christmas is less than two weeks away and I am in full on preparing mode. For the past four years I've been busy with finals until right before Christmas and never had time to do many festive things. This year I was able to help decorate the tree and house, bake cookies, send out cards (okay, I'm still working on this one), and do a couple craft projects.<br /><br />Full disclosure: I am not a Martha Stewart type. But I sure try. I decided I wanted to decorate my mini tree with a preppy theme. Of course I need some Lilly bulbs. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars tracking down limited edition ornaments made by Lilly Pulitzer I decided to Mod Podge my own with glass bulbs I bought at Marshall's and paper from my old Lilly agendas.<br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M8Jydg2UyIY/VnCKiAarfPI/AAAAAAAAAKw/Jit1AB9XGjg/s1600/lillybulbs10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M8Jydg2UyIY/VnCKiAarfPI/AAAAAAAAAKw/Jit1AB9XGjg/s640/lillybulbs10.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">This was my first Mod Podge project and I was a little nervous the bulbs wouldn't turn out well. The project was much easier than I ever imagined. I was really happy with the finished product so I wanted to share them with you before I put them on the tree.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I also Mod Podged a couple old Birch Box boxes with December agenda pages and gold glitter on the edge. I thought it was cute and perfect for storing left over Christmas cards or gift tags.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p05RoFP9IuM/Vm-gkrygd0I/AAAAAAAAAKM/vFaBY_Db5-E/s1600/lillybulbs4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p05RoFP9IuM/Vm-gkrygd0I/AAAAAAAAAKM/vFaBY_Db5-E/s640/lillybulbs4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I am excited to do some more Mod Podge crafts! <b>What are some crafts you've done this holiday season?</b><br /><b><br /></b>I hope you all are having a very merry Christmas!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><br /><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-M8Jydg2UyIY/VnCKiAarfPI/AAAAAAAAAKs/YEjId8s3gCE/s1600/lillybulbs10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><br /><br /><br /></a><a href="https://images-blogger-opensocial.googleusercontent.com/gadgets/proxy?url=http%3A%2F%2Fi58.tinypic.com%2F28ilpfr.png&amp;container=blogger&amp;gadget=a&amp;rewriteMime=image%2F*" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i58.tinypic.com/28ilpfr.png" /></a>Mary Gateshttps://plus.google.com/100923318792000522271noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6843871986841681660.post-24984776411746656772015-10-16T22:34:00.002-07:002015-10-16T22:49:46.932-07:00Not Your Dad's Camo<div align="right"><div style="text-align: left;">I grew up in the country where people actually wear&nbsp;<i>real</i>&nbsp;camo. I graduated last May marking the official end of my undergrad years. I avoided posting about it to prevent nostalgia, but now that it's been a few months I feel much more secure and wanted to share a fun list of things I regret not knowing three or four years back.&nbsp;</div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5v_f5bS_ryA/ViB47rDyn5I/AAAAAAAAAIw/Yo7-xbg69_A/s1600/25thingsincollege.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5v_f5bS_ryA/ViB47rDyn5I/AAAAAAAAAIw/Yo7-xbg69_A/s640/25thingsincollege.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><ol><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><b><u>He isn't your soulmate.</u>&nbsp;</b><span style="font-weight: normal;">It probably seems impossible to believe right now, but you will find better.</span></b></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>Don't wear your nice clothes to a party.</u></b><span style="text-align: left;">&nbsp;I've snagged sweaters, scuffed boots, stained dresses, and lost a really depressing number of earrings. I consider myself a pretty put together party-goer, but even the most responsible person will lose the ability to protect their precious fashion after a few Coors Lights.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>Join an activity.</u>&nbsp;</b><span style="text-align: left;">Intramural basketball,&nbsp;student government, Greek life, underwater basket weaving, or whatever. Find what you love and be passionate about it. I joined the debate team without realizing how it would completely define who I was during college, but it did.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>Take a PE class every semester.</u> </b><span style="text-align: left;">This is probably the one time in your life you will have free access to any workout class you want - take advantage of that! Plus it's an easy way to pick up some extra credits so you don't have to take Intro to Anthropology your last semester. </span><i style="text-align: left;">And </i><span style="text-align: left;">it'll help keep you in shape :)</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u style="text-align: left;"><b>You have no idea what you want to be when you graduate</b>.</u><span style="text-align: left;"> Many people do so props to them! But most of us will change career paths over the course of college. When I was 18 I was confident that I wanted to go to law school and now I can't imagine anything more painful.&nbsp;</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>That professor actually </u><i style="text-decoration: underline;">wants</i><u>&nbsp;you to come to office hours.</u><i> </i></b><span style="text-align: left;">They're there because they like teaching. Showing interest in their lectures by asking additional questions or just chatting about the topic during office hours will get you big points. In many cases it's the difference between a B and an A. But to be honest getting to know your professors is worth much more than a grade. It made me feel successful, valued, and connected me to the school on a deeper level. Sometimes it's stressful or just pain hard to find the time, but I put it off regularly and now regret that.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>There is good in everyone.</u>&nbsp;</b><span style="text-align: left;">You will be more happy if you search for the beauty in others.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>You aren't fat.</u> </b><span style="text-align: left;">Let me repeat: you ARE NOT FAT. And if you are, that's okay. The day I realized no one dislikes me because I could afford to lose fifteen pounds was the day college became much more fun. If your friends judge you for your size than they really suck and you should find new friends - you're better than that. *hair flip*</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>Do things outside of your school.</u></b><span style="text-align: left;"> My junior year I became active in a church downtown, away from Lewis &amp; Clark. Having a community away from school was refreshing and helped give me perspective on the real world (aka outside academia).</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="text-align: left;"><b style="text-decoration: underline;">Don't count on the library printer working ten minutes before class.</b> </span><span style="text-align: left;">It won't.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>Making friends will never be more easy.</u>&nbsp;</b><span style="text-align: left;">You're surround by thousands of people your age that just want to have fun. Don't be shy! One of my bestfriends and I met Sophomore year when I was going through a rough time and eating alone in the dining hall. She asked if she could sit with me and instantly became one of the most important people in my life.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>If there's free food or t-shirts go.</u></b></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>Call home.</u> </b><span style="text-align: left;">Most people say one a week or so. For me, this was once every day or so. Staying connected to family and friends is important. When school life is rough it's really nice to have a secondary support system.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>McDonald's doesn't serve hamburgers and fries until 10:30.</u> </b><span style="text-align: left;">If you're like me and not a McD's breakfast food person this is </span><u style="text-align: left;">important</u><span style="text-align: left;">&nbsp;hangover information.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>Get an internship.</u> </b><span style="text-align: left;">Living in the country made summer internships impossible for me. If you can find one, do it. Experience will be more important post-graduation than the degree.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>You'll outgrow those friends you met during Freshman orientation week.</u>&nbsp;</b><span style="text-align: left;">I remember eating in the dining hall about three weeks into classes with the group of eight friends I deemed "my friend group" four days into college. By the end of our senior year the group couples all split up, drama ended many friendships, two of them had transferred to different schools, and by graduation my dorm roommate deleted me off Facebook (I'm still not sure why...). There is only one person out of that group of eight I am still friends with and there was a two year period where we didn't hangout. Don't get me wrong, you'll make&nbsp;</span><i style="text-align: left;">amazing</i><span style="text-align: left;">&nbsp;friends - just remember it might not be the people you first assumed would be those friends.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>Take pictures!</u></b><span style="text-align: left;">&nbsp; That whole thing about missing the moment is a lie. You'll appreciate having lots of pictures. My Canon was the best investment I ever made.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>You can rent textbooks for free through the library.</u></b><span style="text-align: left;"> Instead of buying a $75 book that you only need to read one chapter of try to check it out through the library. You can even copy that one chapter so you have it after you return the rental.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>Don't forget to return rentals.</u> </b><span style="text-align: left;">Those late fees are </span><i style="text-align: left;">painful</i><span style="text-align: left;">.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left; text-decoration: underline;">God has it all planned.</b><span style="text-align: left;"> Learning to follow His Grace is one of the most important things you can do to help your future. I didn't join a church until my junior year and it changed my life. Don't lose sight of your faith.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>Go to campus events.</u></b><span style="text-align: left;"> You're paying for that stuff so go and enjoy it! And I promise you'll never have this many free opportunities again.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>Don't over do it.</u> </b><span style="text-align: left;">It's probably okay to drop that random Logic class you signed up for if you're in over your head (this happened to me first semester and there has been zero repercussions beyond how much better it made that semester).</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>You'll miss babies and old people.</u></b><span style="text-align: left;"> For four years you will be surrounded by almost exclusively people around the age of 20. Hearing from people younger or older than you will become so refreshing.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>Date, but don't let dating define your college experience.</u></b><span style="text-align: left;"> I went on a few dates and regularly dated one guy my senior year. The only part I regret is once I skipped a friend's party because my boy-person didn't want to go. Don't let a boy hold you down.</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b style="text-align: left;"><u>College is about being selfish.</u> </b><span style="text-align: left;">Learn who you are and find who you want to be. And most importantly, have fun.</span></li></ol><ol></ol><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div></div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><div style="text-align: left;">I wish I would have known all of that from day one. But if we're being honest, learning the 25 things above made for a lot of life-changing (and fun!) experiences.</div></div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div></div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><div style="text-align: left;">For those of you who are an upperclassmen or college graduate: <b>what makes your things-I-wish-I-would-have-known list?</b>&nbsp;And for you folks newer to college, feel free to ask questions! This is always a busy month for me. Here's a brief list of what I have going on over the next couple weeks: my mom's birthday, my birthday, a few other birthday's as well, two national debate tournaments in Kansas City, midterm galore, and spring break. I've been loving it. (Despite this early spring triggering my pollen allergies - like I've been sneezing to the point where it's genuinely embarrassing to go out in public.) Unfortunately it seems like the traditional gloom is back for a while. I love this city, but the weather really gets to me. The trees are beautiful and the rain isn't that bad, but I miss open skies and sunshine. Between debate nationals coming up and graduation not long after I've been really stressed lately. The last thing I need is clouds to bum me out.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">But when you're feeling down ... wear monograms. And bright colored accessories. It's like medicine you can wear. So for any of you that might be feeling rainy day blues, I have a giveaway for you!</div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jSkir6oDR98/VPAiAF6BnlI/AAAAAAAAAkk/lbZ16-60q6k/s1600/monogrambow4a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jSkir6oDR98/VPAiAF6BnlI/AAAAAAAAAkk/lbZ16-60q6k/s1600/monogrambow4a.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Emily from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/people/eolsen2">eolsendesigns</a>&nbsp;is a complete sweetheart who makes <i>adorable </i>monogramed bows.&nbsp;Who ever wins the giveaway will win a custom bow. I've only bought bows from her before but I am dying over this <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/158954523/monogrammed-cosmetic-case?ref=shop_home_active_11">cosmetic case</a> (sooo cute).</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Target and Lilly are two of my favorite things so I am ecstatic. Carly from the College Prepster went to the big release event in NYC and <a href="http://www.thecollegeprepster.com/2015/01/lilly-pulitzer-and-target.html">posted some insight</a> about the line, which confirmed my excitement. The clothes look adorable but I'm most looking forward to the unique dinnerware and decor.<br /><br />This table setting has my heart:<br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O7SuORz7OA0/VKyhGsZ0soI/AAAAAAAAhmk/IVXyENULNeA/s1600/Lilly%2BPulitzer%2BTarget%2BTable.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O7SuORz7OA0/VKyhGsZ0soI/AAAAAAAAhmk/IVXyENULNeA/s1600/Lilly%2BPulitzer%2BTarget%2BTable.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://www.thecollegeprepster.com/">The College Prepster</a></td></tr></tbody></table></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Not all Lilly lovers shared my excitement. This surprised me. Apparently part of the the line's appeal is being elite and snobby - or something like that.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div></div><blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;">Actually a little upset about <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/LillyforTarget?src=hash">#LillyforTarget</a>. Thousands of middle-class females across the United States own neon shift dresses. Target has yet to release the line's prices, but it's unlikely that they'll be cheap. I imagine dresses will be around $60 if not more, which is substantially cheaper than $300+ but close to popular re-sell value.<br /><br />More importantly, if you're interest in Lilly is related to price-related exclusivity you should re-evaluate your priorities. Fashion shouldn't be about finances. It should be about style, self-expression, and happiness. In <a href="http://www.boston.com/life/fashion/2015/01/13/this-why-the-internet-freaked-out-about-lilly-pulitzer-for-target/77K1GypB2rb0TOdpAmOBBP/story.html">a recent article </a>Lisa Birnbach, author of <i>The Preppy Handbook </i>and <i>True Prep</i>, stated that she believes Lilly herself would be very happy about the increased availability of the line:<br /><br /><blockquote class="tr_bq"><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 28.0080013275147px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">“What surprises me—besides how emotional and snobby people are being about this—is that I don’t think Lilly Pulitzer would be disappointed at all,” Birnbach told Boston.com. “I think she’d probably be very keen on it. I spent time with her in Palm Beach a few years ago, and she was very pleased that her clothes had become more popular under the new ownership. She was, I think, a Democrat in the social sense of the word.”</span></span></blockquote></div><div style="text-align: left;">If the idea of cheaper Lilly still has you grumpy you can relax. Lilly for Target is just that, Lilly for Target. The main line will still be better quality and iconic prints will still be exclusively at boutiques. No one will mistake your YGR Callahans for being from Target. They will still be as fashionable as before. I honestly can't think of a reason anyone should be upset.<br /><br />Regardless of how you feel, it's happening so you might as well be excited.<br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">The line consist of over 250 pieces ranging from dresses, scarves, beach wear, and shoes, to decor, and house ware. The Target patterns are different but all embody the classic Lilly vibe - pink, orange, and beachy all over. One of the coolest parts of the line is that it'll be offered in plus sizes which Lilly Pulitzer currently doesn't offer. &nbsp;<b>EDIT: </b>A few days after announcing the Lilly for Target line Target clarified that they will only offer plus sizes online. This kills a little of the excitement I had for plus sized Lilly. I expect the line's plus size sales will be higher than they originally expected.&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">You can find Lilly at your local Target starting on April 19.<br /><b><br /></b><b>How do you feel about Lilly being at Target? When it comes to applying the credentials of a Rhetoric &amp; Media Studies degree to the job market I get a bit nervous. I am no longer interested in journalism or public relations. I am not sure exactly what I want to do, but it's hard for me to confidently apply for jobs that aren't directly related to my major. Plenty of people find careers outside their field of study, but how? The journey to where I want to be isn't the straight path I had planned when I was a freshman, and there is no roadmap directing me there.&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The longer I ignore job applications the more I become scared. I know it's time to polish my resumé and contact potential employeers. However the idea of rejection is intimidating. What if no one sees me as potentially valuable? I basically have myself convinced that I should set my sights on Starbucks (although that might not be a bad idea ... #StarbucksLuvr). The reality of it is even if no one wants to hire me I have to try. I have to accept the possibility of rejection if I want any chance of meeting my dreams. It sounds cliché (because it is), but my chance of succeeding relies on finding the courage to accept failure. Some employers won't be persuaded by my application, but hopefully some will. I have a feeling if I do find a good job I will quickly forget about all the times I was turned down.&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">But still ... applying for jobs is scary. I can be positive, but I won't understand the reality of career searching until I face the process. There is no way to know if how high I should set my goals. &nbsp; My currently place of comfort is to apply for jobs I know my degree 100% qualifies me for and ignoring competitive positions. Am I trying to&nbsp;<i>go too far?</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The truth is I don't know the answer to the questions my head is spinning over. In fact, I'm not even sure where to find those answers. What I do know is that I am prepared to navigate myself through adulthood with confidence the support of those around me. Success is out there somewhere and even though I may fail before I find it, through following God's Grace I know I can get there.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><br /><img src="http://i58.tinypic.com/28ilpfr.png" /></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6843871986841681660.post-40603712458858734742014-11-14T12:23:00.000-08:002014-11-14T12:23:01.643-08:00Thankful Thursday: Finding God<div align="right"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IZJXB5ZuegM/VGVeAtrcL1I/AAAAAAAAAe0/_oD6WT7Wj2s/s1600/312969_10150428178224465_576150_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IZJXB5ZuegM/VGVeAtrcL1I/AAAAAAAAAe0/_oD6WT7Wj2s/s640/312969_10150428178224465_576150_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Last fall I went through a phase of desperately needing to better understand the world and my place in it. An overwhelming direction from God led me back to church after having been away since I was a young girl. I didn't know much about my faith, and I didn't know where to attend church. All I knew was that I needed to find that place.&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The first church I visited was Portland's Church of Christian Science -- it's right beside a Lutheran church where I meant to attend service. I didn't realize where I was until the sermon was starting so I politely stayed. The messages I heard there didn't help me connect with my faith and the church vibe wasn't the warm comforting love I needed. The next Sunday I attended church at First Presbyterian. Ever since that Sunday the people there have been a second family.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My first service happened to be the day all the different church organizations set up a table and recruited church-goers to extend their faith to a new activity. A few sweet, sweet ladies reached out to me and asked if I would like to join their women's Bible Study. The focus and concentration I put on God during those meetings has gave me a better direction to serve Him. I learned to love myself and others. I learned to forgive. And most of all I learned that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior and will forever seek to better my relationship with Him.&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Last November I was baptized as a member of First Presbyterian. My parents came and I was surrounded by love from them and ladies in my Bible studies. At first I was embarrassed that I was being baptized as an adult, but now I am happy that I will always be able to remember and cherish that experience. One thing that was very special for me was being baptized my our associate pastor. She is inspiration for the Christian I want to be; dedicated but admittedly not perfect, and progressive yet traditional. I was the first person she ever baptized (with the exception of a Cabbage Patch doll at seminary, apparently) which made it extra memorable for both of us.&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://scontent-b-sea.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/1392081_10151802275971700_703465531_n.jpg?oh=1f62a429cbf6878ab17b87f8e17c3a0d&amp;oe=55202A43" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://scontent-b-sea.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/1392081_10151802275971700_703465531_n.jpg?oh=1f62a429cbf6878ab17b87f8e17c3a0d&amp;oe=55202A43" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My parents and myself at First Pres after my baptism (November 2013). I am far from understanding what it means to be a Christian, but the endless journey of trying to better understand that has led me to be the best version of myself. I can never thank God enough for leading me toward his Grace.&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><br /><img src="http://i58.tinypic.com/28ilpfr.png" /></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6843871986841681660.post-18847903640982050092014-11-13T16:10:00.000-08:002014-11-13T16:29:33.900-08:00Top Preppy Blogs to Follow<div align="right"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I am always looking for new bloggers to follow. I hadn't saw them since I left home in August so it was a really nice visit. They were only here for two days so I wanted to make the most of our time together. Fortunately the <a href="http://www.thepumpkinpatch.com/">Pumpkin Patch</a> on Sauvie Island was still open for a couple days after Halloween. Otherwise I am not sure what we would have done. Every one gets excited for fall activities, but they all end after Halloween (at least here) leaving nothing to do for the rest of the fall.&nbsp;</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_M60eFXWoPs/VGPC8EkSmhI/AAAAAAAAAeM/UX4o9qvq_Qg/s1600/pp-pp1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_M60eFXWoPs/VGPC8EkSmhI/AAAAAAAAAeM/UX4o9qvq_Qg/s640/pp-pp1.jpg" width="383" /></a></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My dad went about his own business while my mom and I went to the Pumpkin Patch. After Halloween all the pumpkins were free so she took a few little ones home for Thanksgiving decor. We both had a blast even though I got lost on the drive there and it was a little cold. I'm glad it was still open for a couple days after Halloween, because I don't have alot of ideas for late fall activities.<br /><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m1tTXaY4zwo/VGPC804bqVI/AAAAAAAAAeQ/Ty6yw5LZo8A/s1600/pp-pp5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m1tTXaY4zwo/VGPC804bqVI/AAAAAAAAAeQ/Ty6yw5LZo8A/s640/pp-pp5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">It is still beautiful outside, but increasingly colder and more rainy. It's definitely still fall, but a much colder version of the season I was so excited for in September. November is an opportunity to share my thanks with others so I wanted to do a Thanksgiving series this month. I decided to post once a week on Thursdays discussing a larger topic as opposed to every single day in hope that my writing will be a more thought through and in depth.&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />This week I want to talk about going to school at Lewis &amp; Clark College and my debate team. I talk about both these things quite often, because they are very important to my life right now. My undergrad years have been completely defined by coming to school at LC and deciding to debate. There have been multiple times where I have questioned if coming here was the right choice or if spending my time debating was what I actually want. In the end I realize that those choices have surrounded me with some of the most amazing people I know and I am genuinely happier than I have ever been before.<br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://pdxcept.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/frank_manor_part_four.jpg?w=580" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://pdxcept.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/frank_manor_part_four.jpg?w=580" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;">Photo via <a href="http://pdxcept.wordpress.com/2014/05/25/frank-manor-house-part-four/">PDX|Cept</a></div><br /><span style="font-size: small;">My freshman year of high school I began looking online at colleges. In Eastern Oregon the number of people who end up going to college is lower than in most areas and the majority of those who do seek higher education attend a regional state school. The idea of attending an expensive and competitive private school is more rare. When I set my sights on Lewis &amp; Clark I&nbsp;received&nbsp;alot of snarky&nbsp;<i>yeah, good luck with that! </i>comments.<i>&nbsp;</i></span><br /><span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><span style="font-size: small;">When I found out about Lewis &amp; Clark I instantly fell in love with it's beauty (LC is always ranked in the top 5 most beautiful schools in the nation!). I remember staying up late looking at pictures of LC with my mom, but subconsciously telling myself not to get disappointed when my application gets rejected. For four years I dreamed about LC, but never expected to be accepted. I was in Italy when I recieved my "Welcome to Lewis &amp; Clark" email, and it was one of the proudest moments of my life. My parents still have my acceptance letter framed and hanging on the wall. It's not that Lewis &amp; Clark is Harvard by any means, but for my family and I it was a big dream that somehow I was lucky enough to achieve.&nbsp;</span><br /><span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><span style="font-size: small;">Attending school here has been the best decision of my life thus far. The academics are more rigorous than expected and that has encouraged me to learn more than I would have at another school. It also helps that my professors are so supportive. They remember things about me from semester to semester and know what my academic strengths are and push me to overcome my flaws.&nbsp;</span><br /><span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><span style="font-size: small;">Hands down the best part of my undergrad experience (and probably life thus far, honestly) has been being a part of LC's debate team. I talk about it all the time, because my life is focused around my teammates and our tournaments. The people are super weird, but they're my family. I have hated each of them at points yet love them always. Each member of the team has done something to help me become the person I am now. I am more outgoing, confident, and intelligent than I would be if I had to go through college without their support.</span></td></tr></tbody></table></div><div style="text-align: left;"><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash2/v/t1.0-9/577888_10151215528571700_1524800192_n.jpg?oh=d736a35a46f12021a637adc763f79a56&amp;oe=54D75112" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="290" src="https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash2/v/t1.0-9/577888_10151215528571700_1524800192_n.jpg?oh=d736a35a46f12021a637adc763f79a56&amp;oe=54D75112" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is the team in 2012 at our annual Christmas party.<br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: small;">This is my eight year of doing debate and still every round teaches me something. I consider myself somewhat intelligent and that is 75% because of debate. The activity itself is really beneficial for me, but most of all it's just <i>really </i>fun. For my last semester I am starting a new partnership with a girl I've never debated with before. Together we should be successful, but regardless of that I know we will have tons of fun together. The tournament itself wasn't the best ... Sarah and I competed in front of our favorite judge first round and he ended up giving us bad speaker points because he thought we were ~less than~ sweethearts to our competitors. As a result we placed toward the bottom of the bracket throughout pre-elimination rounds. In the end we went 3-3 (you need at least a 4-2 record to advance to elimination rounds), losing 3 competitive rounds against really good teams. Even though we didn't win as much as I would have liked to, we performed really well. I am proud of us and looking forward to the next tournament.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Usually the UPS tournament is the same weekend as halloween so it has always been a tradition for teams to dress up together. The crisp cool air, stark colors, the best holidays, and most importantly pumpkins. Lots and lots of pumpkins.&nbsp;</div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Growing up I never went to a pumpkin patch because my daddy always had the <i>best</i>&nbsp;pumpkins growing at our house. Having pumpkins from home is always the first option, but unfortunately I don't have time to visit during the early fall so buying pumpkins from local farms is the next best thing. My sophomore year I went with a couple friends to <a href="http://therolofffamily.com/farm/pumpkin-season">Roloff Farms</a>&nbsp;and wasn't overly impressed (to be honest) so I didn't go back last year. This year we decided to go to Sauvie Island. For some reason I had never been there before this visit. HUGE mistake. It is basically a gorgeous farm community like 10 minutes from downtown Portland. There's everything from U-Pick flowers or produce to corn mazes all over the island. We decided &nbsp;to stop by the first pumpkin patch we came to which ended up being at <a href="http://bellaorganic.com/">Bella Organic</a>.&nbsp;</div></div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_P_LAkMvrak/VDDoN7DN6cI/AAAAAAAAAa8/hVGREpEVcYQ/s1600/aIMG_3745%2Bcopy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_P_LAkMvrak/VDDoN7DN6cI/AAAAAAAAAa8/hVGREpEVcYQ/s1600/aIMG_3745%2Bcopy.jpg" height="425" width="640" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;">Since it was the first Friday in October the farm wasn't overcrowded which is always nice. We wandered around quite a bit. There was a lack of signs that made it difficult to understand where it was and wasn't appropriate for us to walk through, but we never got in trouble, soo .....</div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-B1bI_06Lsyc/VDDoN7FD9VI/AAAAAAAAAbY/NWeLXR6ayQM/s1600/aIMG_3748%2Bcopy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-B1bI_06Lsyc/VDDoN7FD9VI/AAAAAAAAAbY/NWeLXR6ayQM/s1600/aIMG_3748%2Bcopy.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The weather was absolutely gorgeous. They have a cute little shop with fresh food and gifts to buy. I found a couple retro advertisement signs for my apartment: one is Winchester and the other is Case equipment. The most exciting part was discovering Sauvie Island. It was a little taste of country right in Portland. Summer is over and school has started. I'm officially a senior and determined to have as much fun as possible this year. I'm finally doing all of the things I've said I should do over the past 3 years. First on my list: Oregon State Fair.&nbsp; </span><br /><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mR3szukpaJg/VAjCMjhTypI/AAAAAAAAACc/xG7OMNdCoGU/s1600/Untitled.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mR3szukpaJg/VAjCMjhTypI/AAAAAAAAACc/xG7OMNdCoGU/s1600/Untitled.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">I went with my best friend, Will. Between the animals, food, and music it was a great day for both of us. Here's a look into all the fun we had:</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-1B-54HqhOsM/VAaLlSVaQAI/AAAAAAAAAZI/upepKifGq7o/s1600/blogger-image--166033458.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-1B-54HqhOsM/VAaLlSVaQAI/AAAAAAAAAZI/upepKifGq7o/s400/blogger-image--166033458.jpg" width="400" /></span></a><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">I discovered the deep love I have for Eastern Oregon over the summer. It truly is my home. Coming back to Portland for school always makes me homesick for the first couple weeks, but after having an amazing summer in the country this time it's extra difficult. The fair was a great way to bring home to the city. My friend and I spent quite awhile looking at the animals and watching them be showed. It's so fun watching so many talented kids work with their beautiful animals.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div><br /><div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-MLbwljC6oYs/VAaKQpuKxAI/AAAAAAAAAX8/jCHAS_c9w4c/s1600/blogger-image-116828838.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-MLbwljC6oYs/VAaKQpuKxAI/AAAAAAAAAX8/jCHAS_c9w4c/s400/blogger-image-116828838.jpg" width="400" /></a><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-MLbwljC6oYs/VAaKQpuKxAI/AAAAAAAAAX8/jCHAS_c9w4c/s1600/blogger-image-116828838.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"></span></a><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"></span></div><div style="text-align: right;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">When I decided to go to the State Fair I just planned on consuming thousands and thousands of delicious calories. There were probably 75 people listening to him speak and, no exaggeration, Will and I were the only people there under probably 50. There were numerous BBQ places to eat, but we chose <a href="http://www.adams-rib-smoke-house.com/">Adam's Smokehouse</a>&nbsp;because it seemed to have the most competitive prices. It was also tucked away from the crowd by a nice shaded area with a Bluegrass band playing nearby--score. I had ribs and there grilled corn. It was <i>so </i>good. Probably the best ribs I've had outside the Midwest and Texas. I'm not sure which was messier the corn or the ribs, but I was a mess by the time I was done. Hopefully I'll be able to visit their restaurant in Salem soon.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i8LcmX1t3g8/VAjH9BZAVBI/AAAAAAAAACs/NJQ9_-AB1FY/s1600/image%2B(5).jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i8LcmX1t3g8/VAjH9BZAVBI/AAAAAAAAACs/NJQ9_-AB1FY/s1600/image%2B(5).jpeg" height="400" width="396" /></a></div>A major reason for attending the fair on the day we did was because Chirs Young (see: my boyfriend) was performing that night. I found this out well after VIP tickets were sold out so our plan was to get in line early for the best free seats. Gates opened at 5:45 (concert at 6:45) so we got in line at about 5:00 and were able to sit in the first seats available behind the VIP section.<br /><br />Before getting in line we went and had a mixed drink. Literally the weakest drink I've had in my [almost] six months of being 21. My Pendleton and diet might as well have just been diet. After that we stuck to beer which is my suggestion. (Also excuse this gross picture of me. It was a long and hot day.)</div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hvN2ltPl_Ag/VAaLkuR2ILI/AAAAAAAAAZA/f5r3VKQoWT4/s1600/blogger-image--546872394.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XaIu_RiclgY/VAaLf0iJ1YI/AAAAAAAAAYo/Ph9arnu3ecY/s1600/blogger-image-1291004142.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XaIu_RiclgY/VAaLf0iJ1YI/AAAAAAAAAYo/Ph9arnu3ecY/s400/blogger-image-1291004142.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>The concert was great, as expected. Even though I have already watched him open for George Strait I was crazy giddy the entire time. Like I said, we sat pretty close which was awesome. John Berendt's sharply observed, suspenseful, and witty narrative reads like a thoroughly engrossing novel, and yet it is a work of non-fiction. This shep shirt is the perfect item to do so.&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.sidelinesweetie.com/judith-march-457d12crl.html">Dip Dye Dress </a>(<i>Judith March</i>) - $98</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.sidelinesweetie.com/pictures/judith_march/2014/457d12crl_web_52f69dce02be7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.sidelinesweetie.com/pictures/judith_march/2014/457d12crl_web_52f69dce02be7.jpg" height="400" width="256" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This dress came out a while back, but it's new to my wishlist. This is really exciting for me. I found a good deal on a juicer at Macy's that the sale associate assured me was a great buy. Saturday he performed his last concert ever at AT&amp;T Stadium in Arlington, TX. I've always been a fan which made it a huge honor for me to see him perform this past April when he performed in Portland. Last night I listened to my favorite George Strait songs and (<i>maybe</i>) cried a little bit. He is the heart of true country music. Last night's show ended his touring career appropriately by breaking the all time concert attendance record. More than 104,000 fans crammed together to witness the show. That's just ... amazing.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rtwxY4sK8Pw/U4wdR5cluCI/AAAAAAAAATk/deATHICmCt0/s1600/marymae1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rtwxY4sK8Pw/U4wdR5cluCI/AAAAAAAAATk/deATHICmCt0/s1600/marymae1.png" /></a></div><br /><br /></div></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6843871986841681660.post-33030274014059698082014-06-02T00:01:00.000-07:002015-01-17T22:32:59.977-08:00Buy Lilly Pulitzer For Cheap<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ubiCsdm23qI/VLtTiWMiJYI/AAAAAAAAAh4/vW4K0z4XxRE/s1600/lillyforcheapbanner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ubiCsdm23qI/VLtTiWMiJYI/AAAAAAAAAh4/vW4K0z4XxRE/s1600/lillyforcheapbanner.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I love my Lilly. Unfortunately she doesn't quite fit the Northwest-vibe so it's rare to see her colorful patterns around Oregon, Washington, or British Columbia. (Once I saw a strapless Lilly maxi in the spring break section of my local Nordies and almost had a heart attack ...) Not only do I have to buy all my Lilly online, this also means no warehouse sales, boutique clearance racks, or finding fellow Lilly lover's old pieces at a thrift shop.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">As a result I've learned a couple ways to shop for Lilly (and other brands) without breaking the bank. A warehouse sale (WHS) and two online sales.&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The warehouse sale generally takes place around early June near the Lilly headquarters in Pennsylvania. They sell leftovers from the past year, slightly damaged seconds, and samples. The women who shop the WHS often camp out days ahead of time to be one of the first in line. Since it's across the country I've never been, but you should check out <a href="http://philly.racked.com/archives/2013/06/06/what-to-expect-prices-deals-and-the-line-at-lilly-pultizer-spring-warehouse-sale-2013.php">this post</a> from a fellow blogger about her experience at the sale.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The online sales take place around the beginning of January and the middle of August. I buy quite a bit of my Lilly from these sales. It is mostly stuff from recent seasons and the prices are good. Thousands of women connect through resale groups/pages to trade and sell their clothes. The socially accepted prices are far lower than they are on Ebay (I bought a Wiley top off resale for $12 and Ebay is currently selling <a href="http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lilly-Pulitzer-Wiley-Resort-White-Guiding-Light-Ruffle-Tube-Top-XL-NWT-68-00-/251534664685?pt=US_CSA_WC_Shirts_Tops&amp;hash=item3a90a263ed">the same&nbsp;</a>one for $33). There is always quite a bit of Lilly on Ebay. The only problem I have is that (in my opinion) the prices are often outrageous for used clothes. Many people carry a Le Pliage as their everyday bag. I bought mine with the intent of using it to hall around my laptop, pens, water, etc. at debate tournaments. When I am stressed looking put together is the only thing that keeps me from falling apart and a clunky backpack will ruin any outfit.<br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R8OXGI519nw/U4qP1TS0rnI/AAAAAAAAAS4/vbOCBHCyTEA/s1600/cleanyourlongchamp7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R8OXGI519nw/U4qP1TS0rnI/AAAAAAAAAS4/vbOCBHCyTEA/s1600/cleanyourlongchamp7.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I am utterly obsessed. </td></tr></tbody></table><br />To my surprise I have been carrying my Longchamp every where. I use it for class as well as my casual purse. I love it. The only downside thus far ...<br /><br />After only having it for a couple months it looks like it has been through hell (I did carry it in Vegas so that could explain it …) with various stains all over. I scrubbed it and scrubbed it, but these are the kind of marks that won't come off with a rag and soapy water. Everything I read online told me the same thing -- throw it in the wash. (WHAT? No. Definitely no.) My instincts told me that sending my nylon and leather bag through the wash was a bad idea so I ignored the advice and continued to carry the stain-covered bag. After another month the bag was looking more and more dingy. I decided to bite the bullet and wash it.<br /><br />The good news is that all the advice was correct! You can totally throw your Longchamp in the washing machine. The bad news is that the process is still scary no matter how much the internet tells you it's okay. This post is intended to easy your anxiety about washing your Longchamp.<br /><br />Here's how I cleaned mine:<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EZERdA5YZWc/U4qPxcPSeII/AAAAAAAAASw/wmSdiJItHEo/s1600/cleanyourlongchamp8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EZERdA5YZWc/U4qPxcPSeII/AAAAAAAAASw/wmSdiJItHEo/s1600/cleanyourlongchamp8.jpg" height="425" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This before picture doesn't do the dirt justice.&nbsp;</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b>1. Try spot cleaning first.</b> Use soapy water, a Tide To-Go pen, or whatever your secret stain-remover is. Most marks will come off this way and I imagine your bag will wear out much faster if you throw it into the washing machine regularly.&nbsp;</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><b>2. Put stain remover where needed. </b>I swear by <a href="http://www.grandmassecretproducts.com/">Grandma's Secret Spot Remover</a>, but use whatever you normally do.&nbsp;(Note: I noticed my bag had the slightest bit of fraying in a spot so I clipped that before washing. You might want to check and do the same.)<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-m_kkSmihBgg/U4qOtlR8cTI/AAAAAAAAASY/FlXwhxIUDVI/s1600/cleanyourlongchamp5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-m_kkSmihBgg/U4qOtlR8cTI/AAAAAAAAASY/FlXwhxIUDVI/s1600/cleanyourlongchamp5.jpg" height="425" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tI4MhIX9xw8/U4qPivdo1TI/AAAAAAAAASo/lWmq6Dd2K54/s1600/cleanyourlongchamp6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tI4MhIX9xw8/U4qPivdo1TI/AAAAAAAAASo/lWmq6Dd2K54/s1600/cleanyourlongchamp6.jpg" height="425" width="640" /></a></div><b>3. Set your washer.</b>&nbsp;This is the part to be most careful with. Wash in in cold water for the least amount of time possible. If your machine allows you set it to a slow spin cycle as well. This will prevent the leather from getting wore out.<br /><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-T6euolcLw_0/U4qONj0jNDI/AAAAAAAAASA/4RQoCuZXcrk/s1600/cleanyourlongchamp3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-T6euolcLw_0/U4qONj0jNDI/AAAAAAAAASA/4RQoCuZXcrk/s1600/cleanyourlongchamp3.jpg" height="425" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><b>4. I've been home for a couple weeks now getting stir-crazy for sun rays and good friends. Unfortunately, all of my friends are still in school and won't return home for a couple more weeks. Until then my summer will be lacking in summer adventures. So while many of you sip frozen drinks on the beach, some of us will take the introvert approach to Memorial Day by online shopping our lives away.<br /><br />This is the list of Memorial Day sales I have been interested in. A couple fell flat, but overall I am happy with this weekend's deals. Unless noted all these sales end Monday 2/26 (Memorial Day) so shop fast!<br /><span style="color: #073763;"><br /></span><span style="color: #073763;"><br /></span><span style="color: #073763; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><b>DONT MISS&nbsp;…&nbsp;</b></span><br /><a href="http://shop.lacoste.com/">Lacoste</a> - 25% off storewide<br />My picks:&nbsp;<a href="http://shop.lacoste.com/Lacoste-Sleeveless-Stripe-Seersucker-Shirtdress/dp/B00GR3DHFO?field_availability=-1&amp;field_browse=2248426011&amp;id=Lacoste+Sleeveless+Stripe+Seersucker+Shirtdress&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;refinementHistory=subjectbin%2Ccolor_map%2Cprice%2Csize_name&amp;searchNodeID=2248426011&amp;searchPage=1&amp;searchRank=-product_site_launch_date&amp;searchSize=12#.U4KmJv2ty9Y">Seersucker Shirtdress</a>&nbsp;| <a href="http://shop.lacoste.com/Lacoste-Womens-Pique-Headband/dp/B0051UZ1ZS?field_availability=-1&amp;field_browse=2248436011&amp;id=Lacoste+Womens+Pique+Headband&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;refinementHistory=subjectbin%2Ccolor_map%2Cprice%2Csize_name&amp;searchNodeID=2248436011&amp;searchPage=1&amp;searchRank=-product_site_launch_date&amp;searchSize=12#">Pique Headband</a><br /><br /><a href="http://oldnavy.gap.com/">Old Navy</a> - Everything up to 50% off<br />My picks: <a href="http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=79755&amp;vid=1&amp;pid=967241022">Tie Front Tee</a> |&nbsp;<a href="http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=87794&amp;vid=1&amp;pid=968722002">"Shine On" America Tank</a><br /><br /><a href="http://factory.jcrew.com/index.jsp?srcCode=JCNav">J.Crew Factory</a> - 50% off women's<br />My picks: <a href="http://factory.jcrew.com/womens-clothing/knits_tees/short_sleeve_tees/PRDOVR~45452/45452.jsp">Ivory Anchor Tee</a>&nbsp;| <a href="http://factory.jcrew.com/womens-clothing/skirts/aline/PRDOVR~41575/41575.jsp?color_name=flax">Linen-Cotton Mini</a>&nbsp;| <a href="http://factory.jcrew.com/womens-clothing/SwimCoverups/swimwear/PRDOVR~A3031/A3031.jsp">Anchor Bikini</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.jackrogersusa.com/collections/sale">Jack Rogers</a> - 25% off select styles<br />My picks:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.jackrogersusa.com/collections/sale/lauren">Lauren Sandal</a> | <a href="http://www.jackrogersusa.com/collections/sale/palermo">Palermo Sandal</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.sidelinesweetie.com/">Sideline Sweetie</a> - 25% off everything<br />My picks:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.sidelinesweetie.com/karlie-dp301874awht.html">The Fairytale Dress</a> | <a href="http://www.sidelinesweetie.com/judith-march-457d12crl.html">Dip Dye Shag Dress&nbsp;</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.gap.com/">Gap</a> - 40% off regular price items<br />My picks:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1013117&amp;vid=1&amp;pid=960186002">Denim Circle Skirt</a> | <a href="http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=8793&amp;vid=1&amp;pid=981172012">Star Print Chambray Boyfriend Shirt</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.ralphlauren.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=2943768">Ralph Lauren</a> - An additional 30% off basically everything (through 2/27)<br />My picks:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/index.jsp?productId=32678366">Striped Ballet-Neck Dress</a>&nbsp;| <a href="http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/index.jsp?productId=32678446">Sleeveless Ruffled Top</a>&nbsp;| <a href="http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/index.jsp?productId=32307416">Bridle-Print Cotton Short</a><br /><br /><a href="http://usa.roots.com/">Roots Canada</a>&nbsp;- 25% off your order<br />My picks:&nbsp;<a href="http://usa.roots.com/womens-sweatpants/summer-fleece-pocket-sweatpants-gray/04060790,default,pd.html?cgid=womensNewArrivals&amp;selectedColor=H07">Summer Sweatpants</a>&nbsp;| <a href="http://usa.roots.com/NavajoTee/Women%27sTopsT-ShirtsandTanks//02110004,default,pd.html?cgid=womensTShirtsAndTops&amp;selectedColor=010">Navajo Tee&nbsp;</a><br /><br /><span style="color: #cc0000;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><b>SKIP</b></span></span><b style="color: #cc0000; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"> …&nbsp;</b><br /><a href="https://www.brooksbrothers.com/">Brooks Brothers</a> - $39 (3 or more) and shorts $59 (2 or more)<br />My complaint: if you are looking to stock up on BB polos or shorts this is a pretty great deal, but their selection is small which discourages excitement.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.columbia.com/">Columbia</a> - $25 credit when you spend $100+<br />My complaint: it's so easy to find Columbia on sale at Fred Meyers or an outlet.
